DESCRIPTION: APW - N.Y. Chronograph Watch Co, New York, time-only watch with center-seconds, 15J, 16S, gold-filled OF recase with attractive engine turning and engraving detail, white enamel dial, SW-LS, mvt marked "Adjusted," gilt mvt, s#174834. For further excellent info on this style of watch as well as others by Manhattan Watch Co. and N.Y. Chronograph Watch Co., we recommend Michael C. Harrold's excellent two-part article in the April and June 2010 issues of the NAWCC Bulletin.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, machined to accept a regulator spring but none is present; dial with cluster of perimeter fractures at 3, some scattered hls, small edge chip under bezel near 1; excellent hands; case shows little wear, ding near center rear, good engraving detail, small notch filed to outer lip of rear presumably from a past testing for gold content; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; glass crystal with some dings below-left of center.

LOT#: 170622-95

DESCRIPTION: APW - New York Chronograph Watch Co, very rare true chronograph, 16S in front, 18S in back, GF OF original "MWCo" (Manhattan Watch Co) case, SW with alternate pullout stem-setting, WED, lever escapement with upright D-form pallets, 7-9J, gilt mvt marked "Patented" around barrel arbor, s#171436. The Complete Guide lists the "true" chronograph as a 5-star rarity, but then shows a photo of a Swiss 15J chronograph below, and then misidentifies this style immediately after. Presumably only 800 watches were produced under this name, and only a tiny number of "true" chronographs with stop, start and return, which is what the button at 11 does. All other features are typical of Manhattan Watch Co, including the case signature and serial number range, which indicates the end of Manhattan production.
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, excellent mvt condition overall, the plate jewel settings are out of position; good chronograph function; dial hl at 11; hands excellent; case shows very little wear, few MFS, no dents or dings, crisp ET detail; bow tight, brassy at top, crown shows very light wear; good glass crystal.
