DESCRIPTION: APW - Lancaster Watch Co, "Eclipse, Standard Am. Watch Co. Pittsburgh, PA" marked mvt, 11J, 18S, 6oz coin silver HC recase with initials to rear, unsigned white enamel SS dial, KWKS, gilt mvt, s#46019. A rare private label marking, the "Standard American Watch Co." was a mail-order operation and contracted watches from assorted makers (including Lancaster, Waltham, Illinois and Hampden) and sold a number of different qualities of movements from these makers that were marked with grade names such as "Nation," "Clipper," "Eclipse," "Triumph," "Crescent," "Excelsior," and "Acme."
CONDITION: Mvt: Runs after a twist to start, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered smudges and fine scratches to plates, oxide to regulator; dial with few scattered faint hls, tiny fracture at 5, few scattered edge flakes under bezel, hand rub within seconds-register; excellent hands, hour and minute are plum colored, seconds-hand is blue; case front with a large split to the center tube of its hinge and front lid has substantial play at its hinge and opens wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 110 degrees), broken front lift spring is allowing lid to fall freely open and closed with gravity, case shows ample wear, numerous tiny nicks and scuffs throughout, dent and a ding to left band, ding to right rear edge, reduced engraving detail to front with small areas of full loss; bow pivots freely, push shows ample wear and significant portions of metal loss; good glass crystal.
