DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Waltham Watch Co, Model 1857, 15J, 18S, 14K gold or better (tested, exhibiting very slow fade of 18K solution on stone, no fade of 14K solution) original HC with inaccurate "K18" marking, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), gilt mvt, s#541829. Gross weight of assembled watch 81.0 dwt (126.0 g). From the collection of J.D. Unruh.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fair cosmetic mvt condition overall, hazy plates with uneven toning, scraped scratches to area under balance wheel and extending out to area by adjacent plate screw , mild oxide to regulator and hairspring stud, tarnish to regulator index; dial with sliver missing to upper-right edge of seconds-register, few tiny flakes at center hole, numerous edge tiny flakes with the largest at 10; broken hour hand, fine minute hand with oxide, excellent seconds-hand; case shows medium wear, few crease type dents to right rear shoulder, dent to band at 6, few scattered dings to front, pinpoint nicks and scuffing to cuvette around KW hole and three small nicks to opposite end at shoulder, engine turning detail is fully lost aside from a very faint hint to left rear edge, reduced engraving detail with areas of full loss, opened case rear and cuvette lids fall closed freely with gravity; tight bow with thinning top, push shows ample wear and some metal loss; good glass crystal.
